Double-Lined Surface Impoundment Preserving Our Precious Groundwater

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) has been authoring governing documents for solid waste and wastewater containment since the early 1970's. These regulations have evolved to require the use of impermeable liners to more-effectively contain highly contaminated, often hazardous, waste streams which preserve human health and our environment. Global demand for geomem-brane-lined impoundments rose to 8.7 billion square feet in 2015 and is expected to eclipse 12.9 billion square feet by 2025 (source: Grand View Research, Geosyn-thetics Market Analysis 2016 by Mr. San-tosh Nichani). Construction was started on one such project requiring an impermeable lining system to contain a liquid waste byproduct in January 2016.
