To fulfil its obligations with respect to a number of marine environment-related policies (e.g. Water Framework Directive, European Marine Strategy, OSPAR Regional Directive), the Netherlands is obliged to undertake biological and chemical monitoring of its coastal waters and submit assessment reports.
