Around 22 million working days are lost in the UK each year due to muscular-skeletal disorders and stress. That's bad news for individuals, and not great for businesses either. Jaguar Cars and Land Rover decided to do something about it. As with most vehicle manufacturers, work on its assembly lines is often hands-on and can be physically repetitive. This has led in the past to accidents and contributed to cumulative disorders such as back-ache, eye strain and general fatigue. Ergonomics in the workplace not only influences employee health but also takes its toll on morale, resulting in higher staff turnover and poor performance. Poor performance, in turn, can lead to quality issues, affecting brand reputation and customer satisfaction with the product.
