It's that time of the year again when the days begin to grow longer, trees starting to bloom, the Kentucky Oaks, the Kentucky Derby and the one drink that is a Derby tradition, the mint julep. The drink had its simple beginnings around the early 1800's and the ingredients consisted of 3 oz Bourbon, 1 tsp Superfine Sugar, Garnish: Fresh Mint Springs. You would then dissolve the superfine sugar in the bourbon that was in a highball glass, fill the glass with ice and garnish with the springs of mint on top. Serve with short straws. When available it was usually served in a pewter or silver cup.
