A method for scanning a radiated acoustic beam is described, by introducing a concise decentering operation in an annular transducer array sound source. For generating a narrow acoustic beam, we have proposed the simple method of using a concentric annular array in which the width of each element is weighed by the J{sub}0 function. Additionally, by applying a clearance that exists between each neighboring element of the array to decenter the array elements, we have shown that the direction of the radiated acoustic beam is made to be variable. Even when this decentering procedure is optimally, the shifting of the propagation path of the beam still occurs, and it is possible to scan the beam precisely. Using numerical calculations, we show the scanned aspect of the narrow beam generated by this method. The validity and applicability of this method are then examined.
