No Shelf Required is the title of both Polanka's edited work and her blog about issues dealing with e-books for librarians and publishers . The editor has been interested in e-books since NetLibrary emerged in 1999, and she continues to study and write about them as they change and develop. Polanka is currently the head of reference and instruction at Wright State University Libraries. No Shelf Required is an enjoyable and fascinating collection of articles by library professionals. Each article focuses on a different aspect of e-books, from acquiring and using them to preservation, standards, and accessing them on the Internet. A reference list follows the end of each article, and the work is thoroughly indexed. Polanka's goal is to explore the challenges presented by the medium and offer ideas on how to integrate e-books into libraries and to put them into the hands of the reader.
