In his preface to Optimizing Academic Library Services in the Digital Milieu: Digital Devices and Their Emerging Trends, author Brendan Ryan writes that the "library as solely a physical space will not survive in the digital milieu" ((ⅹⅲ)). Libraries must continually change to facilitate access to content through technology, according to Ryan, particularly with the slew of digital devices available today. An ever-increasing number of library patrons are never without mobile devices such as tablets, e-readers, and smartphones; they want resources to be available whenever and wherever they roam. Librarians who serve in the digital milieu of today's libraries must continually update and evolve to stay current with trends, and this book aims to help by identifying best practices and strategies for using digital devices and copyrighted materials in academic libraries.
