A Two-Faced Cloth

The usual rigid heddle is made so that a normal dent alternates with a blocked dent which has a central eye (Fig. 1). Sometimes it is specially made, sometimes it is a conventional reed with the blocking done in lead. This present technique depends on an unusual blocking of the dents and I found that ordinary matchsticks were the simplest things to use. Use an odd short piece of reed with 9 or 10 dents per inch. Cut the matchsticks into two lengths -(a) long ones which when put two in a dent leave a small central eye and (b) short ones, half the length of the above.
