A Note on Rug Designing

In the past, the two simple techniques of knotting and khelim pre-dominated in the rug field. Both of these techniques present all-but-limitless possibilities to the weaver, for any colour can be put in any place in any shape. This fact can be both a strength and a weakness.rnIt is a strength only if the weaver has limitations put on him by tradition. For instance, the Persian carpet makers, though theoretically free to weave any possible design, were in fact limited to what tradition demanded at that time, in that place and even in their particular family. Within those limitations they could be as free as they liked and they produced very great designs.
