The Visions Museum is located at Liberty Station, an old Marine base that has been refurbished for public and commercial spaces. This exhibition organised by the American Tapestry Alliance consisted of 36 works of contemporary tapestry from around the world. The first piece you saw and the one chosen for the catalogue cover was Floating in Blissful Ignorance by Ulrikka Mokdad of Denmark. It was whimsical and beautifully executed. Later I glimpsed it through a doorway from the next room and the yellows and pinks against its light blue background were particularly striking from a distance. A volunteer pointed to it saying 'isn't it amazing, it could be a painting'. She confided in me that the volunteers were a bit worried about having a tapestry show as they were not weavers, but they were very taken with the work.
