摘要

A market-town in the rural heart of England, sited on the southernmost reaches of the Peak District, seems an unlikely place to have close ties to the Arts and Crafts movement and the printing and dyeing traditions of India. But, curious as it may seem, Leek had a vital role to play in William Morris' life and work through the considerably hard-won knowledge and skills of Thomas Wardle, dyer, whose dye works were located in Leek on the River Churnet.
