If you enjoy simple, quick sewing projects, and would like to work with unique indigo-dyed fabrics, this colourful book is an ideal introduction. The author covers several different techniques using indigo: plain and dip-dyeing; batik printing and stencilling; and tie-dyeing using various objects (stones, timber and pipes). Each group of projects is introduced by a detailed, well-illustrated description of the dyeing technique to be used. A side bar with the techniques and the projects themselves lists the materials and equipment needed. The simple sewing skills needed to complete the projects are fully described at the end of the book, as well as templates for some of the design details. Beginners will find the level of information provided ideal, although more detailed information on the inherent risks from handling some of the chemicals referred to would be advantageous. More experienced dyers may find some of the project ideas useful too.
