Correspondence

The idea of weaving with unlikely materials had been in my head for a while; the design roughly there, too. So I decided to actually weave it. The journey, the whole, was interesting: an exploration of colour, texture, decision-making, neat selvedges, balance, interpretation, choices-you name it! First of all I collected odds and ends over the three-day festive period. These were found objects using the theme 'Christmas at the hotel'. The found objects included ribbon, crackers (prizes, jokes and cardboard surround), sweet papers and coloured foil. (I later rejected items as some would tear and be unsuitable for weaving, such as foil and some paper.) Then I selected for colour. I chose a dark background as it would show up the festive jazzy colours I wanted to use.
