Weaving is the interlacement of materials, from traditional fibres, to straw, paper, metal, rush, hair and all sorts of recycled materials. The tools and equipment are many and varied because the craft has been around for thousands of years. Different people, different cultures and different tools are used to produce anything from a simple utilitarian cloth to the most exquisite and intricate textiles. Traditional cloth weaving in Europe follows a fairly straightforward path: design, draft a pattern, select and calculate the required amount of yarns, make a warp, dress the loom, weave. I will leave out the yarn preparation, dyeing and finishing processes for now, but what happens when you change your tools?
