Theo Moorman Trust for Weavers Grants for 2018/19

Once again the Trustees were very pleased that such a broad range of practice was represented in the 2018 applications for grants, and that this is also reflected in the final reports from the successful applicants published here. It is always interesting to note how a relatively small level of grant given directly to an individual for their very specific needs can make such a big difference to their work going forward. Sometimes quite modest projects, as well as the more ambitious ones, can provide the much needed catalyst to move into a new phase of creative work, just as help with the purchase of extra equipment or covering the rent for studio space can make a big difference to a weaver's business. Something else that came up strongly in conversation at our recent Weavers Knot meeting of past grant recipients was that the confidence boost that comes with the Trust showing support can contribute as much as the actual money. We are delighted that all our grant recipients have been able to fulfil the work they set out to do, and are very happy with the various directions each individual is taking as a result. Two years ago we set out in the Journal some of the things that may be helpful to keep in mind when applying to the Trust; these still stand, and can be found in issue number 263, Autumn 2017. It is also still on our website, along with the application form for the next grants round, the deadline for which is March 1st 2020.
