David Gordon, a planning professor at Queen's University in Canada, has put together a wide-ranging survey of spatial planning and programming in capital cities in Europe (Paris, Moscow, London, Helsinki, Rome, Brussels, Berlin), Asia and the western Pacific (Tokyo, New Delhi, Chandigarh, Canberra), and the Americas (Ottawa, Washington, Brasilia, New York). Peter Hall contributes short but pithy introductory and concluding chapters that place capital cities in an economic context. Lawrence Vale provides a second introduction that offers a comparative framework for the case studies that follow. This is a nicely international collection, with contributors currently living in nine nations.
