Multi-Objective Optimization of Plain Fin-and-Tube Heat Exchanger Using Evolutionary Algorithm

摘要

In the present study, a comprehensive thermalmodeling and optimal design of a plain fin-and-tube heat exchangernis performed. Hence, the "-NTU method is applied to estimate the heat exchanger pressure drop and effectiveness.nSome design parameters of this study are selected as follows: longitudinal pitch, transversal pitch, fin pitch, numbernof tube pass, tube diameter, cold-stream flow length, no-flow length, and hot-stream flow length. In addition, a fastnand selective nondominated sorting genetic algorithm(NSGA-II) is applied to obtain themaximumeffectiveness andntheminimumtotal annual cost (as a sumof investment and operation costs) as two objective functions. The results ofnoptimal designs are presented in a set ofmultiple optimumsolutions, called Pareto-optimal solutions. Furthermore, ansensitivity analysis of change in optimumeffectiveness and total annual costwith changes in design parameters of thenfin-and-tube heat exchanger is also performed in detail.
