First of all, 1 would like to extend from the bottom of my heart many thanks to Professor Richard Hetnarski, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal, for his very nice decision, devotion and hard work to initiate and complete the special issue of the Journal dedicated to the memory of Professor Liviu Librescu. In addition, I would like to thank him for his friendship and many years of cooperation with Liviu. Secondly, my thanks go to everyone who worked very hard in order to invite specialists and complete the review process to achieve this appreciated publication. Last, but not least, my thanks are extended to all the authors who shared their knowledge, time and hard work, so that their papers could be included in this special issue.rnHonestly, for me, Liviu, holding the door of his class, was a simple and automatic extension of the values he lived by every day: courage, strong will, responsibility and love. During the last moments of his life, he lived by the highest ideals of a teacher protecting and giving his life to save the lives of his students, as if there were no higher calling, no higher ideal.
