An auto-leveling system using feedback, correcting the density of fiber leading-ends (DFLE) in slivers, called Micro-leveler is presented. Computer simulations show that the Micro-leveler significantly outperforms Auto-levelers, especially in correcting stationary variations in the feed. In the Micro-leveler system, all the effects of variations in the properties of fibers that constitute the feed such as fiber length, fineness, orientation, folding, etc., are consolidated into a single impulse response that is characteristic of the feed. Thickness is modeled as a convolution of DFLE with this impulse response. Time-domain deconvolution with feedback allows the computation of DFLE, enabling leveling with much higher precision. The advantage of the proposed acceleration measurement at the scanning rollers, the need for capacitance measurements on the delivery-side, and the necessity for precise synchronization of the measurements and corrections are highlighted.
