摘要

Textile designers have the potential to play a key role in the next industrial revolution; the shift to a circular and sharing economy.1 The need to create materials that are recycled and can be recycled again means that we require textile designers to take center stage in this new era. The articles in this issue have been developed from papers presented at Circular Transitions (2016), held at Chelsea College of Arts and Tate Britain, London, in November 2016. This was the first global conference to bring together academic and industry research concerned with designing fashion textiles for the circular economy, and was hosted by the Centre for Circular Design, University of the Arts London, with support from Mistra Future Fashion, a cross-disciplinary program based in Sweden (2011-2019), with the vision of closing the loop and creating systemic change in the fashion industry. Circular Transitions aimed to explore themes around designing for a circular future where materials are designed, produced, used, and recovered in radical new ways.
