摘要

Systematics remains at the core of palaeontology, underpinning evolutionary as well as biostratigraphical research. The Journal of Systematic Palaeontology evolved from the Natural History Museum's in-house journal back in 2003. Under the expert editorship and skilled guidance of Andrew Smith, the profile of the journal expanded, with increasingly more papers written by international authors from outside the NHM and not necessarily describing material housed in the NHM's own collections. A dramatic rise in impact factor to the very healthy value of 2.375 in 2008 reflects the journal's success.
