Eco-energetic Analysis of Integrated Agro-aquaculture Models, North Eastern Himalayan Region, India

The energy and economic efficiencies of different integrated agro-aquaculture units of fish culture developed in North Eastern Himalayan region, India, viz. duck cum fish, poultry cum fish, goat cum fish, pig cum fish, and cattle cum fish, and a control (without integration) have been compared. Among various integrated agro-aquaculture models, the energy efficiency (output/input) was reasonably high for the poultry cum fish (0.67) integration, followed by the cattle cum fish (0.66) integration. Lowest efficiency was recorded for the goat cum fish integration (0.11). The average growth rate was recorded highest for pig (0.43 kg/day), followed by goat (0.04 kg/day). Fish productivity was recorded highest when integrated with the dairy subsystem (1.82 t/ha/yr), followed by duck (1.69 t/ha/yr) and poultry (1.50 t/ha/yr), with highest the growth rate for silver carp (Hypopthalmichthys molitrix) in all the integrations (0.201 to 0.591 kg/fish), followed by mrigal (Cirrhinus mrigala- 0.160 to 0.370 kg/fish). Fish productivity in the control was recorded to be 0.76 t/ha/yr. The economic efficiency was recorded highest for the cattle cum fish integration (1.72), followed by the goat cum fish subsystem (1.24).
