Archival basics: a practical manual for working with historical collections

Charlie Arp's manual is an excellent addition to the existing literature aimed at those working with archives without formal education or training. It is based on the content of the Basics of Archival Continuing Education course which Arp and colleagues created with a 2001 funding grant. Arp continues to present the content, acting as online instructor for the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) Basics of Archives course since 2003. The chapters on digital archives and digitization are not part of the training course content.
