Editorial

The current volume of Journal of Small Business and Enterprise Development (JSBED) marks my thirteenth year as the Editor of this progressive and innovative specialist journal. Every new issue and volume, published both electronically and in hard copy, represents a celebration of commitment, hard work and strategic thinking in what is increasingly recognised as a fast growing and rapidly maturing topic of research. Authors and readers choose deliberately to publish and/or read articles that represent the cutting edge of empirically rigorous research and the latest thinking in small business and entrepreneurship. We publish articles written by doctoral students, early stage academics as well as well-established researchers from the UK, continental Europe, and the rest of the world. Practitioners and policy makers are also welcome to contribute to the various features of this practice-oriented journal. We pride ourselves on publishing speculative as well as controversial "Point of View" articles that contribute significantly to ongoing debates in a much contested area of socio-economic and political importance. The premier position of JSBED has long been recognised, and the journal is now well established amongst the most innovative, empirically rigorous and forward-looking journals in small business, innovation and entrepreneurship. Nevertheless, there is still much that we, as a community of knowledge, need to do in order to further improve the quality, relevance and impact of related dissemination.
