Molecular vibrational spectroscopy with neutrons

The technique of molecular vibrational spectroscopy using neutrons is introduced. The simplicity of the theoretical basis is emphasised and the importance of the vibrational band intensities is underlined. It is shown how these intensities give access to the vibrational eigenvalues and egenvectors. Some recent applications in the fields of Hydrogen Bonding and Catalytic Surfaces are given. The prospects for future work on this technique are briefly outlined.
