摘要

This article reports alkylation of phenol with cyclooctene in presence of benzenesulphonic acid as catalyst under different reaction conditions which yields industrially important 2- and 4-cyclooctylphenols. The effects of some reaction parameters; such as temperature, molar ratio of phenol to eyclooctene, and amount of catalyst were studied in detail to find out the optimum reaction conditions. The yields of cyclooctylphenols were found to be increased with an increase in temperature, molar ratio of phenol to cyclooctene and amount of catalyst. The alkylated products were characterized by different spectroscopic means.
