When Asselby signal box (near Howden) was demolished around 1960, many telegraphic and special train notices were found. Preserved, albeit tattered, they provide the raw material for this publication which sheds light on special train working on the Hull & Barnsley Railway just after its opening when it was verging on bankruptcy and short of rolling stock.
