Encounters with Waterways History: Willan, Hadfield and Rolt Joseph Boughey

This article serves to commemorate the centenaries of the births of two people influential in waterways history, and a third, Charles Hadfield (1909-1996), whose centenary passed, little-noticed, last year. Whilst events to mark the centenary of Lionel Thomas Caswall Rolt (1910-1974) have drawn unprecedented interest in the world of waterways, that of Thomas Stuart Willan (1910-1994) seems to have passed entirely unmarked.
