The history of sound and radio art is rich with opportunity for study and consideration. Most research of this type focuses on art movements such as the Futurist experiments and performances, the Dadaists, the Surrealists, and postmodern and avant-garde artists, in particular John Cage and others after him. Gilfillan, on the other hand, gets at the matter by directing our attention to the early practitioners of German experimental radio in his interesting book Pieces of Sound, German Experimental Radio.
