Introducing the Legal Affairs Section

I am delighted to introduce the inaugural issue of the Legal Affairs Section of the Journal of Professional Issues in Engineering Education and Practice. Not only has law become important in the profession of engineers, but also it is becoming the profession itself in many a contract and business dealing. Liability issues, with which many engineers are fast becoming familiar, are just one part of a larger legal imbroglio, and we know how insidious just these liability issues can be. Engineers are generally uninformed of the intricacies of law and are frequently unacquainted with what is legally untenable or deciphering their contractual rights. Moreover, the disputes among engineers themselves―such as between designers and contractors―can reach mammoth proportions, where the blind run after the blind.
