摘要

Is planning a discipline yet? For Victoria Beard and Victoria Basolo, planning is still emerging as a discipline. They argue that their proposals would give planning disciplinary status so the field would no longer be in perpetual crisis, at a crossroads, or on the verge of toppling into an abyss. While they have bravely addressed the breadth of this existential problem, I will limit my comments to just one strand-the definition of planning as a discipline in the style of the social sciences.rnSimply calling planning a discipline in general conversation does not trouble me. The term "discipline" has multiple meanings, yet people readily deduce what one means when it is used informally.
