JIM MCDONALD, who died on 27 Deember, 2016, was the most influential business leader in Australia in recognizing and driving the business case for high-quality research delivering value to the pipeline industry. For a CEO of a major listed company, Jim had an unusual beginning. He had junior stints with Church and State before entering the oil and gas industry in a service role on an offshore platform in Bass Strait, eventually rising to become Platform Manager. After that he joined NT Gas and AGL Pipelines before becoming CEO of the Australian Pipeline Trust, now APA.
