Shell U.K. E&P identified an application for an intelligent-well completion within the existing Osprey development and initiated a project to engineer the required equipment interfaces. The company undertook a feasibility study to determine the possibility of modifying the existing Christmas tree, subsea control system, and completion-installation tools to incorporate intelligent-well functionality. This system would provide a means to reduce operating expenses and to optimize production and recovery throughout the field's life.
