INDIA'S PY-3 FIELD: PERMANENT FLOATING PRODUCTION SYSTEM WITH MULTIWELL SUBSEA TIEBACKS

The PY-3 field, 11 miles offshore Tamil Nadu in the Cauvery basin in southeast India, was discovered by Oil and Natural Gas Corp. in 1988 with the drilling of Well PY-3-2. The basin extends both on- and offshore. Production has been established from a number of onshore fields, and the offshore exploration campaign has resulted in three hydrocarbon discoveries, including the PY-3 field. Seven wells were drilled in the immediate vicinity of PY-3 through 1990. As part of the Indian government's intention to encourage investment in the upstream oil and gas sector, the PY-3 field was offered in the fourth exploration-licensing round.
