An easy approach to the synthesis of optically active uic-diols: A new single-enzyme system

The synthesis of enantiomericaly pure vicinal diols is an area of growing interest, since these compounds are highly valuable chiral synthons. New efficient processes, allowing for their synthesis, have been recently developed by different authors using transition metal catalysis; however, the major drawback of these procedures is represented by the use of heavy metal catalysis, which may be source of pollution.
