In this paper, the bit error rate (BER) performance of eight user (10.7 Gb/s per user) Optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) system using fiber bragg grating (FBG) encoder/decoder (E/D) is analyzed with a) optical thresholding b)optimum fixed decision thresholding and c)balanced detection. The two critical issues with OCDMA system is multiple access interference (MAI) and signal interference beat noise (BN).To mitigate these effects various coding schemes and receiver structures were presented and compared with the resulting BER without increasing much of the receiver complexity. The effects of photodetector and receiver noises are not considered as these noises have no much effect on the receiver performance. The system model is presented and the results are given highlighting the difference in performance.
