Optical transmission beyond the dispersion limit of optical fibers is very important in future optical communications systems. Optical resonators play a major part in several optical equalisation schemes that are required to compensate for the dispersion effects. This paper presents the employment of a double-coupler double-ring optical resonator for equalising optical pulses transmitted through the dispersive medium. A signal flow analysis is briefly given for stating the optical transfer function of the resonator as well as the fundamental aspects of the dispersion of optical pulse through optical fibers. Strategies for equalising dispersive pulses are described with the design of the optical equaliser. Simulated results are given for optical pusle trains with different quiescent points of the resonator.
