RADAR in the riser

Working in deep waters means that increasingly large lengths of riser have to be used, often in hostile water conditions. It is essential therefore, that these tubulars are routinely inspected. Facing this challenge, ABB Vetco Gray, in conjunction with Global Automated Systems, have developed the RADAR, Riser Active Data Acquisition Recorder. Radar has been designed to provide an economical, safe and efficient way of undertaking internal inspection of riser tubes, choke and kill lines and other metal pipes and can make an important contribution to riser risk management. The design is in its Mark Ⅱ stage, with two units already built and a fur-ther two ready for later this year.
