Maintaining Water Quality in the Aging Distribution System

摘要

Distribution system water quality problems occur due to various reasons including the quality of the water supply, the design and condition of the distribution system, the operation and maintenance of the system, and the control that is in place to track and mitigate water quality deterioration. Three of the primary cures to prevent water quality deterioration include corrosion control, retention time minimization, and better staff training and communication. As our distribution systems age we need to know the warning signs of water quality problems and we need to invest in better means for prevention, monitoring, and working together to meet the complex challenges that an aging system presents. This paper reviews these issues to encourage discussion within water utilities and regulatory agencies.
