Basic Characteristics of New High Nitrogen Stainless Austenitic Nickel Free Low Manganese Steel

摘要

The present work describes the investigations for producing a new class of high nitrogen stainless austenitic steels, in which nickel is entirely eliminated and manganese concentration is reduced from 18-12 % to 1%. High parameters of strength (R_m = 1250 MPa, R= 815 MPa) and plasticity (A = 51 %, Z = 39 %) have been obtained. The yield stress is more than three times higher than that of the widely used austenitic nickel analogs. The new high nitrogen stainless austenitic low manganese steel does not contain nickel but after quenching exhibits better corrosion resistance than the nickel containing analogs. The new steel is recommended for producing medical implants and may be prospective for weight reduction of highly loaded equipment and machinery.
