Microstructure of Hydrated Cement Pastes Prepared with Plain and Mechanically Activated Water

The article presents a brief overview of some of the popular theories about the structure of water, how to change this structure, and specifically the obtaining so-called "Mechanically activated water". An assessment of the microstructure of hydrated cement paste (hcp), at age of 7 and 28 days, prepared with plain and activated water is given on the basis of Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) and Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry (MIP) studies. The results show that the mechanically activated water modifies the hydration of cement and porous structure. In the samples prepared with activated water there is a better hydration of the cement - a bigger quantity of hydration products has been observed and the share of fine gel crystals has been increased, which contribute substantially to the strength gain of hardened cement paste.
