Value by the Numbers: Using Performance Metrics in Libraries.

This article emphasizes the importance of using performance metrics in libraries. It argues that metrics can help libraries make a strong case for additional funding and prove their relevance, particularly during challenging economic environments. Additionally, performance metrics are a key part of strategizing and planning for libraries' futures. The article also points out that, in addition to internal performance metrics, libraries should use industry metrics that are easily obtainable from other sources. Industry metrics give libraries an opportunity to compare their efforts to other libraries. The article concludes that performance metrics should be used regularly in libraries; numbers are measurable and far more difficult to dispute than anecdotal evidence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
