This article is an attempt to survey the available Scottish evidence to provide an overview of the involvement of Scots lawyers in appeal cases before the House of Lords during the eighteenth century. It aims to investigate the technical process of conducting appeals from Scotland to the House of Lords and to identify those involved in managing and arguing such appeals which, it is argued, were an important element of cultural assimilation as the Scottish Bar began to respond to its new British context.
