Changing the culture in public transport: moving from production industry to service provider in a cost-conscious business

For the first time, UITP has organized an international conference addressing the key challenging issues of corporate management and human resources under the patronage of the Commission on Corporate Management and the Commission on Human Resources and their respective chairpersons Ingrid Lieten, General Director, De Lijn, Flanders, Belgium and Sylviane Delmas, service relations, RATP, Paris, France. Hosted by BSAG, the event was a real success thanks to the strong support of Georg Drechsler, Chairman, Michael Hunig, Human Resources Director, and Angelo Caragiuli, Responsible for Training and the BSAG team.rnChanging the culture in public transport is not an alternative, it is the prerequisite to ensure the durability of public transport companies facing new challenges.rnThese challenges are very diverse, and range from liberalised markets and competition, the need to become more cost efficient, reorganisation due to mergers, new technological innovations, but also include factors such as new lifestyles and cultures, environmental requirements, staff evolution resulting from demographic changes and many more.
