摘要

Now, Japanese firms are still enjoying a rather high market share of public works in Taiwan. However, Taiwan joined WTO (World Trading Organization) last year (2002) and has an obligation to open the market to all member countries. This implies that Japanese firms are going to face keener competition with other countries. If Japanese firms intend to remain in Taiwan for business, they will have to enhance their competitiveness. Finally, it should be pointed out that Taiwanese consultants and contractors are, like Japanese firms, also trying very hard to look for jobs in Southeast Asian countries, and have been competing with firms from many countries, including from Japan too. Therefore it is sincerely hoped that the firms of our two countries would, if permissible, cooperate closely in forming sort of association or joint-venture in pursuing jobs or submitting bids together for securing contract awards in order to be mutually beneficial.
