The title of this volume suggests that it is a guide to everything you would like to know about trade in services, spread over 600 pages. The contents are something different. The book might be better described as a guide to everything you would like to know about conducting international negotiations on trade in services, provided you already know a good deal about what trade in services is, how important it is to the economies involved, and who the participants are. Given that emphasis, the reader can count on being instructed by an obviously knowledgeable set of advisers. Some of the authors also provide general knowledge about particular types of service trade, the importance of each, how it can be measured, and how it is related to the rest of the exporting and importing countries' economies, but that is not the usual case, partly because the measurement of trade in services is a murky area. Other authors rely heavily on official documents, which may be authoritative, but tend to be dull reading, filled with lists of objectives and expressions of standard pieties.
