Timber is one of the oldest structural materials which have been in use from ancient times to the present day. Unlike masonry, timber produced with modem technologies can compete with steel and be used to cover very large spans. IASS Working Group Nr. 12 deals with research on timber as a structural material and its contemporary applications.rnThe aim of the Symposium is to trace the development of timber structures from antiquity to the present day. Experts from all over the world are expected to participate and report on timber practice in their countries.
