摘要

When a microstrip antenna is covered with a dielectric layer (superstrate), its properties like resonance frequency, gain are changed, which may seriously degrade the system performance. This paper describes the use of genetic algorithm (GA) to optimize the resonance frequency and gain of a rectangular microstrip antenna covered with a dielectric layer. The optimization involves length, width, thickness and dielectric constant of the antenna, thickness and dielectric constant of the dielectric layer. The optimizedresults for ice layer and a superstrate of dielectric constant of 79 have been described. It is found tha t there is an optim um thickness of the dielectric layer for obtaining the maximum gain.
