Ethernet Services―Service and Market Potential

Analysts predict worldwide revenue potential for Ethernet services could exceed EUD 17 billion by 2006. Ethernet is seen as the most revenue significant of the emerging optical services, which also include storage and wavelength services. This article discusses the current and emerging Ethernet services, their empowering technologies, their limitations, development options and their perceived value in the marketplace. Furthermore, the immediate potential of the Ethernet private line service to generate additional revenues over a carrier's SDH/SONET infrastructure is discussed.
