Future Enhancement of WCDMA Radio Interface

摘要

The third-generation mobile networks (IMT-2000) are currently being enhanced in order to provide higher capacities and advanced IP-based network functionalities and services.To reach this target, the first step is to optimise the radio interfaces for future increasing demands on packet data services. The aim of this paper is to give an overview of highspeed downlink packet access (HSDPA), which is an enhancement to the wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) radio interface to support downlink packet data throughput up to 10 Mbit/s.The paper provides a short account of its standardisation process in the 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project), and explains the key technologies adopted for HSDPA design.
